Every year Temple’s Legal Education and Participation program hosts a one-day boot camp to kick off the John S. Bradway High School Philadelphia area mock trial competition season. A day of activities and prominent key note speakers serve to get students ready for the year.
“Our students love it,” says Roberta West, director of the program. “But they wanted more. More preparation. More coaching. So we came up with this idea for an entire week of camp.” It was a great idea, and one that with the help of organizations such as PennCORD and generous individuals that saw Roberta’s drive and passion for the project, has come to fruition.
Students from all over Philadelphia got together on Temple’s campus in August for a week of seminars on topics ranging from objections and cross examinations to impeaching a witness. Hands were flying up all around the room, and the excitement for the coming season was palpable. This season’s competitors are going to be more ready than ever, and PennCORD is very proud to have been a part of yet another fantastic program that engages students in civics.
