History Club Constitution Wall

The students at Corry Area High School have found a monumental way of honoring their local veterans, fire fighters, and policemen. The school district, in association with the Corry Area High School History Club, undertook a project of turning a cement wall at Corry Elementary School into ‘Constitution Wall’, a tribute wall of heroes, those who have “worn the uniform.”

The wall will contains 311 12” by 12” granite plaques purchased as a tribute to the honorees, which will include their name, branch of military, position in local law enforcement, and wars served in, if any. Each plaque contains two honorees and a 12” by 6” granite plaque half can be purchased for $60.00. Other groups at the high school, including the Student Council, Life Skills class, SkillsUSA, FBLA, and the National Honor Society, have shown their support of the project by making donations to cover the costs of the flag poles that accompany the wall.

“The whole school has really come together to see this project through,” says History Club 2009 Project Manager, Junior Dillan Roth. “Without the support of the entire school and our administration, this project would barely be possible.”

The History Club unveiled their year-long finished project, Constitution Wall, on Friday, September 19 with an hour-long celebration ceremony. Pomp and pageantry dominated the celebration with the arrival of our keynote speaker, the First Lady of Pennsylvania, Judge Marjorie Rendell. Judge Rendell’s motorcade was escorted by approximately 50 “Patriot Guard” motorcycle riders. Attended by over 600 students, staff and community members, the crowd was introduced to local politicians and dignitaries, and student representatives. Judge Rendell gave the keynote speech and challenged each of us to “determine what our individual plaque will say.” Following the ceremony, a luncheon was held for Judge Rendell and 35 History Club project managers, administrators, and school board members. Since the celebration ceremony, approximately 50 additional plaques have been sold. History Club is currently planning the 1-year birthday celebration of Constitution Wall.
