Description: 

This teacher institute is a professional development course for social studies teachers of Berks County Middle and Senior High Schools.  Attendees will learn about the Pennsylvania and United States Constitutions, how cases proceed at the trial level, key cases in the history of the judical review, and learn about it from both a United States and Pennsylvania Constitutional perspective.  Participants will engage in a mock Pennsylvania Supreme Court argument.

Common Pleas Judges Jeffrey Schmehl (President), Linda K. M. Ludgate (Criminal), Scott D.Keller (Family), Scott Lash (Civil and Juvenile)

Judge Thomas M. Golden of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania

Bruce A. Murphy, Ph.D., Kirby Professor of Civil Rights at Lafayette College and author of several biographies of Supreme Court justices, including Wild Bill: The Legend and Life of William O. Douglas.

Supreme Court Justice Michael Eakin and First Lady of Pennsylvania and Third Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Marjorie O. Rendell have also been invited to attend.
