Students Deliberate about National Issues
What: A half-day issues convention and workshop in State College, Pennsylvania
- Students will deliberate together in small-group forums with other Pennsylvania students on some of today's most timely public issues
- Forums will be real, rigorously non-partisan and non-agenda-driven while covering as many perspectives as possible, and will be led by trained neutral moderators
- Student journalists are invited to cover the deliberations; talk together about media's roles and responsibilities regarding public issues; and to report on the issues convention to their schools and communities
- Teachers and administrators will observe student deliberations; explore methods and benefits of using deliberative issues forums with high school students; and share any experiences they have had with student deliberation
When: April 16, 2010, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: State College, Pennsylvania
Who: Pennsylvania high school students, teachers, and administrators and homeschoolers; your school is invited to send your principal, a teacher, and three students to participate in this workshop
Cost: $60 per school covers two adults, three students, and one student journalist; $20 for each additional student (includes continental breakfast, lunch, and materials)
